Nick's Audio Processing System in San Francisco.

This is my office in San Francisco which I use, in part, to do audio processing. I have a Pacbell DSL line connected to a Quadra 610  running an Apache server and a router program from Sustainable Software. The router fans out to a Quadra 840AV, used mostly to control a scanner, and a Powerbook 5300c, and a printer. Then come the real machines, a P90 Linux box which I use for a server (cheap IDE disks) for both Appleshare and NFS, as well as an MP3 Jukebox. I work on recordings on a Power Macintosh 9600 and then transfer the files via appleshare to the Linux box where the "mp3" directory is also mounted as an NFS file system, which can then be shared with the wider world.  Most of the audio processing takes place on a Power Machintosh 9600 with a RME Digi96 that has TOS in/out, and Prosoniq's audio editor and processing software. The TOS line goes to a Sharp MD-R3 Minidisc player which allows me to make relatively hiqh quality recordings and transfer them to the Mac for processing, and then to the Linux "mp3" directory,  or back to minidisc for permanent storage, all digitially via the TOS consumer optical connects. Field recordings are made with an MS722. My MP3 Jukebox currently has 1000 songs on it , and I am working to put my entire CD collection on it (about 4000 songs  -- 12 Gigs) as well as other recordings of concerts and nature I have made. I have not figured out a good way to back things up yet ...    . I would like to dump the Mac and I am moving to an all Linux setup, though the Mac does allow me to run three monitors (Multisync 17" M2494).

In the Fall of 2001 I moved a few blocks away to the Lower Haight and got rid of most the machines except for the Mactintosh 9600.
My office is right above the 71 bus line that runs all night, as well as the 6. 7. and 66 bus lines. It's a bit noisy, but I am near the Toranado.
I got rid of most of my CD's but still have them on mp3, until ... .  I Still need to transfer my records albums.
As of the Summer of 2002 I am still running Mac OS 9.1.
Someday I will switch to OS X and a new Power Mac. Someday.

In the spring of 2003 I moved yet again, now out near Lake Merced and Ft. Funston. Still running the PM9600 with G3 400 Mhz and dual boot OS X and OS 9.1 plus a few other x86 machines (all less than 1Ghz) running Linux and what not. Here are some pictures of my costal office with my assistant, albert ryan.

In the spring of 2004 I moved yet again, now to the Outer Sunset near 34th and Judah. Here is my office there.

During the Fall of 2005 we moved yet again, my new office is in the basement of our house in Corvallis, Oregon.

Here is a link to the a picture of the office and one of our first projects there, building an:
