1. Suppose the charge on the electron were positive instead of negative. What changes would have to be made in the CRT circuitry, and how would the deflection of the beam in a magnetic field change?
2. Why is the particular combination of variables
suggested
for the graph of the deflection data?
3. Suppose that in addition to the magnetic field, a voltage is applied to one of the pairs of deflection plates in such a way that the two effects cancel and the total deflection is zero. Which pair of plates should be used, and what should be the polarity of the voltage? If the condition for zero deflection is satisfied and then the accelerating voltage is increased, what will happen to the beam?
